SDC Mumbai Concludes Annual Conference
The Mumbai, India, regional chapter of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC Mumbai) recently concluded its annual international conference. This year's theme was "Colour Trends 2005: Coloration of Synthetics." More than 350 delegates from various sectors of the textile processing industry atended the day-long conference. The lead sponsor of the conference was DyStar India Pvt. Ltd., while Ciba Specialty Chemicals and Colourtex Pvt. Ltd. were co-sponsors.The chief guest at the conference was R.K. Dalmia, chairman of the Bombay Mill Owners' Association. In his address, Dalmia talked about the increased consumption of both cotton and synthetics in India. He also touched on issues such as labor policies and poor infrastructure, which, according to him, were impreding progress of the Indian textile industry. Meanwhile, M D Teli, chairman of SDC Mumbai, highlighted the fact that the chemical processing sector is the weak link in the Indian textile industry.Other highlights of the conference included the inaugural technical session on blind dyeing. The session was chaired by Ullhas Nimkar, proprietor of India-based Texanlab and vice president of SDC Mumbai. Speakers at the session included Peter Diggle, president of SDC, who spoke about the importance of being able to scale up laboratory-level dyeing to bulk reproduction with consistent quality.Other topics discussed during the conference included the coloration of polyester and polyamide fibers and color communication and color basics.
