VDMA Reports Successful Textile Machinery Symposium In India
Held late in 2005 at the Residency Hotel in Coimbatore, the second Textile Machinery Symposium
organized by the textile association within the German Engineering Federation, VDMA, was
successful, according to organizers. Forty German companies presented their technology to the 600
registered textile industry professionals who attended the symposium over the two-day
period. Lectures about spinning technology were the most popular, with roughly 250 visitors
counted. Attendee numbers also were high for the lectures on finishing, knitting and weaving
technology.
S.V. Arumugam, chairman, South Indian Textile Mills Association; Dr. Oliver Lambrecht,
economic councilor at the German Embassy in New Delhi; Bernhard Steinrücke, managing director,
Indian-German Chamber of Commerce; and Prem Mallik, deputy chairman, Textile Promotion Council
(TEXPROCIL), were impressed with the response to the symposium. "The moment is very well-chosen as
India invests on a large scale — especially in the finishing and spinning technology sector — to
take its chance on the world market," they said.
India represents a major market for German textile machinery. According to VDMA statistics,
from January 2005 to June 2005, exports from Germany to India grew by 83 percent when compared to
the same time period in 2004. In particular, spinning machinery exports registered an increase of
some 366 percent.
