Joint Venture Brings Unifi Performance Brands To China

Yihua Unifi — a new Yizheng, China-based joint venture between Greensboro, N.C.-based Unifi Inc. and Yizheng-based Sinopec Yizheng Chemical Fibre Co. Ltd. — has brought Unifi’s Sorbtek® moisture management, A.M.Y.® odor control, Mynx® UV sun protection and Reflexx® performance stretch brands to China. As part of the venture, Unifi’s aio® all-in-one performance fiber technology also is commercially available to Chinese customers.

According to Roger Berrier, vice president, commercial operations, the availability of those products in China contributes to the company’s vision of offering globally produced yarns for globally produced brands. “It is a major advantage to customers who are sourcing globally, as it allows them to develop new products and lines that contain the performance features that consumers desire most,” he said. “It also provides an added level of sourcing flexibility in the major fabric and garment production areas around the globe.”

In addition, Berrier said, customers that prefer balanced or split sourcing strategies can produce fabric or apparel in both China or the Americas, for example, using the same Unifi yarn brands. That advantage maintains product quality, consistency and integrity, he added.
