Invista To Build New Facility In China

Wichita, Kan.-based Invista's Intermediates business has announced plans to construct a manufacturing plant at the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park in order to meet the area's demand for nylon 6,6 intermediates and polymer. The plant - expected to phase in production beginning in 2010 - will be the first of its kind in Asia, utilizing Invista's advanced, proprietary butadiene-based technology to produce hexamethylene diamine and adiponitrile, as well as a range of specialty intermediate chemicals and nylon 6,6 polymer. According to Invista, the new plant also will be the most energy-efficient and technologically advanced in the world.

"The new technology we will incorporate will give us a significant competitive advantage, strengthen our position as supplier of choice to customers in the region, and sustain the growth of our business here," said Warren Primeaux, president, Invista Intermediates.

News of the new facility comes on the heels of Invista's recent announcement of an expansion of its joint venture operation in Foshan, Guangdong province; in addition to an expansion of its LDZ joint venture spandex site in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province; and construction of a nitric acid plant in Singapore. The company also has acquired a nylon carpet fiber plant and begun construction of a nylon 6,6 air bag fiber plant in China.
