Ticona Opens GUR® UHMW-PE Plant In China

United States-based Ticona Engineering Polymers, a business of Celanese Corp., has begun operations at its GUR® ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) manufacturing facility located at the Celanese integrated complex in Nanjing, China. The 20,000-ton-capacity facility joins Ticona’s GUR facilities in Germany and Bishop, Texas, to bring the company’s total global GUR production capacity to 90,000 metric tons.

“Our new GUR UHMW-PE facility is part of Ticona’s Asia strategy to directly serve our customers in this region of impressive growth,” said Sandra Beach Lin, president, Ticona.

Ticona’s new facility is part of a multi-year investment to expand the company’s product and resource offerings to its customers in the Asian region. Plans include construction of other manufacturing sites in China for the production and research and development of advanced engineered polymers and compounds.
