Brandix Factory Becomes First Platinum LEED-Certified Apparel Manufacturing Facility

Sri Lanka-based end-to-end apparel solutions provider Brandix Lanka Ltd.’s Eco Centre has received the platinum ranking under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System™ of the US Green Building Council.

Brandix Casualwear Seeduwa — the company’s main manufacturing plant for England-based Marks & Spencer — received a score of 76 out of 85 points on the LEED scale, exceeding the requirement for platinum status by 12 points, not only achieving the highest platinum rating for a manufacturing facility to date, but also becoming the first apparel factory globally to receive LEED platinum certification. 

The LEED third-party certification program is the U.S. standard for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Brandix’s Green Factory has realized an 80-percent reduction in carbon emissions, 58-percent reduction in water consumption and energy savings of 46 percent; and sends no solid waste to landfill.
