BASF To Establish Chemical Production Site In India
Germany-based BASF SE has announced it will invest 150 million euros in a new chemical production
facility in Dahej, India. The plant will function as an integrated hub for polyurethane
manufacturing including Elastollan® TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) and Cellasto® NVM (Noise,
Vibration and Harshness) parts; and will produce care chemicals such as home and personal care
surfactants, as well as polymer dispersions — including Acronal®, Styrofan®, Styronal®, Basonal®
and Basoplast® — for coatings and paper.
Production will satisfy local demand in growing markets and industries such as footwear, adhesives, automotive, construction, personal care and paper, among other markets. When fully operational, the facility will employ 250 people.
"With its robust local industries, India is set to become a pillar of growth in Asia Pacific," said Dr. Martin Brudermueller, vice chairman of the Board of Directors, BASF SE, responsible for Asia Pacific. "With the new manufacturing facility, we will be able to serve our customers better by developing solutions that meet their individual needs as well as strengthen their competitive advantage."
"The Dahej site complements the existing manufacturing set-up of BASF in India and will support and contribute to the growth of the Indian chemical industry," said Prasad Chandran, chairman and managing director, BASF India Ltd. "The location offers excellent investment conditions and a favorable business environment due to the proximity to raw materials as well as customers. With this new project, we expect to grow our business in the important northern and western regions of India."
